St Andrews Applied Research Limited (StAAR) offers a blend of practical help, guidance and management support to new business ventures through different stages of their growth.
StAAR work with researchers, students and staff at the University of St Andrews supporting them to turn their novel research into new businesses, products or services. Colleagues in StAAR work to assess ideas, considering their commercial potential, the state of the market and any further development requirements.
Further support is provided by the Research Business Development and Contracts team (RDBC) who look for translational funding to support and develop these research ideas. StAAR also works with the University’s expert intellectual property and commercialisation colleagues in the Technology Transfer Office (TTO) to protect intellectual property through patents and other appropriate forms of protection and assess, if appropriate, potential licensing opportunities.
Advice is also provided on establishing proof of concept, using the team’s commercial experience. StAAR is flexible in how they work to ensure the best possible outcomes.
